Dog Grooming Tips
Keeping your dog groomed properly will help contribute to good canine health. Following these dog grooming tips will help you to keep your canine's coat in the best possible shape.
- Regular brushing is very important. This stops the hair from matting which can lead to having to cut out parts of your dogs coat or having to cut the coat short.
- Bathe your dog on a least a monthly basis. If your dog is outdoors frequently, you may want to give baths more frequently to control the odor.
- Use a shampoo or soap that is specially formulated for dogs.
- Some breeds may require blowdrying due to their particular coat or style. However, many times air-drying in warmer weather is preferable.
- Do not put soap on your dog's face and especially on your dog's nose to avoid your dog possibly losing his scent. Only water should be used on the dog's face.
- Bathtime is a great time to check your dog's body for any abnormalities underneath the coat. Also, check the eyes for discharge and the ears for sores or ear mites which may appear as black residue.
- Clean the ears with a cotton ball, and try to avoid getting any water in them.
- Check the paw pads for any foreign bodies such as stones and remove them if found.
- Trim only the tips of nails to avoid bleeding.
- Only use dog toothpaste for brushing teeth, and brush at least weekly.
- If your dog is outdoors often, a daily brushing with a flea brush is essential.
Keep your dog as healthy as possible by following these dog grooming tips.
