Golden Retrievers are very sociable and intelligent dogs which accounts for the huge popularity. They are friendly to family members and strangers alike, so they are usually not good guard dogs. Goldens are very eager to learn and trainable leading to their frequent use as therapy dogs and guide dogs. A golden retriever is very energetic and needs plenty of exercise. True to their roots, these dogs are excellent hunting companions as they love to retrieve and have a soft mouth so the game does not suffer damage. Goldens also love the water, and of course, games of catch and retrieve. A Golden Retriever makes an excellent family pet.
